iPhone screen sizes and resolutions for every model

iPhone screen sizes and resolutions for every model

Recent iPhones use a 3x scale, so a screen's size in points is its pixel size divided by three. The 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro is 1206 × 2622 pixels, or 402 × 874 points. In Figma, design the frame in points and export at 3x to get the native pixel size.

What is the difference between points and pixels on an iPhone?

A point is the unit you design in, and a pixel is the dot on the display. The scale factor links them: at 3x, one point is a 3 × 3 block of pixels. Designers work in points, and an engineer's code uses the same numbers.

Apple publishes the pixel resolution of every model in its iPhone comparison and on each model's tech specs page, such as iPhone 17. The point sizes below are those pixel sizes divided by 3, which is the scale all of these models use. Apple's pages list pixels in landscape order (2622 × 1206); we write them in portrait (1206 × 2622).

What are the screen sizes of every iPhone model?

Recent iPhones fall into six screen sizes. Models in the same line share a size, so you rarely need more than three frames. Sizes are pixels first, then points, in portrait.

  • iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17 and 16 Pro: 1206 × 2622 px, 402 × 874 pt.
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max: 1320 × 2868 px, 440 × 956 pt.
  • iPhone Air: 1260 × 2736 px, 420 × 912 pt.
  • iPhone 16 Plus, 15 Pro Max, 15 Plus and 14 Pro Max: 1290 × 2796 px, 430 × 932 pt.
  • iPhone 16, 15 Pro, 15 and 14 Pro: 1179 × 2556 px, 393 × 852 pt.
  • iPhone 17e, 16e and 14: 1170 × 2532 px, 390 × 844 pt.
  • iPhone 14 Plus: 1284 × 2778 px, 428 × 926 pt.

iPhone Duo, Apple's folding model, has two screens of different sizes, an outer and an inner one. Check its page in the comparison before you design for it, since it does not follow the single 3x table above.

Which iPhone size should I design at in Figma?

Start from one base frame of 393 × 852 or 402 × 874 points and let constraints and Auto Layout adapt it to the rest. Both are common sizes, so most of your screens will look right on the phones people hold today.

  1. Create a frame at 393 × 852 for a safe middle size, or 402 × 874 if you design for the latest Pro line.
  2. Set constraints on every element, and use Auto Layout for lists and buttons, so the screen can stretch.
  3. Check the layout once at 440 × 956 (the largest) and once at 390 × 844 (the smallest of the current group), and fix whatever breaks.
  4. Keep text inside the safe area. The status bar and the home indicator take space at the top and bottom.

Do not design at pixel sizes. A 1206 × 2622 frame makes every font and spacing three times too large in code, and your developer will have to convert it back.

What size should a screenshot be for an iPhone mockup?

Export your screen at 3x, which gives the native pixel size, such as 1206 × 2622 for an iPhone 17 Pro. A mockup scene shrinks or rotates the screen, so a native-size file keeps text sharp even in a close crop.

  • In Figma, add an export setting of 3x to the frame and export it as PNG.
  • Use the same aspect ratio as the phone in the scene, so nothing has to be cropped.
  • Drop the file onto the screen in the online mockup generator, or paste it. The crop, rotate and scale guide shows how to adjust the fit.
  • If you use the Figma mockup plugin, select the frame and the plugin sends it at 4096 px on its long edge, which is larger than any iPhone screen.

For store listings, the sizes are different again. The App Store and Google Play screenshot sizes are listed in a separate article.

What is the iPhone resolution in pixels at 460 ppi?

Most iPhones from the 14 Pro to the 18 Pro Max have a density of 460 pixels per inch, as Apple's comparison lists. Density does not change the size you design at; the scale factor does.

Older models differ. For example, the iPhone 14 Plus is listed at 458 ppi and the iPhone SE (3rd generation) at 326 ppi with a 1334 × 750 pixel screen, which is 2x. If you support an older model, check its row in the comparison.

FAQ

What is the screen size of the iPhone 17 Pro?

The iPhone 17 Pro screen is 1206 × 2622 pixels at 460 ppi, which is 402 × 874 points at 3x. The iPhone 17 uses the same size.

What is the resolution of the iPhone 16?

The iPhone 16 screen is 1179 × 2556 pixels, or 393 × 852 points. The iPhone 16 Pro is larger at 1206 × 2622 pixels.

Is the iPhone 17 Pro Max screen different from the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

No. Both are 1320 × 2868 pixels, which is 440 × 956 points, and so is the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Do all iPhones use 3x?

Every model in the table above does. Older models such as the iPhone SE (3rd generation) use 2x, so their point size is half the pixel size.
