Relight the scene

Raise a lamp, type your brand color for it, and turn the environment light up or down to change how the phone catches the light.

To relight a scene in ls.graphics Live Mockups, raise a lamp’s Intensity in Lights, click its color swatch and type a hex color, then set Intensity in HDR to change the environment light. In our test, the third lamp at Intensity 40 in FF2D7A turned the tube and the phone’s edge pink.

Result: third lamp at Intensity 40 in FF2D7A and HDR Intensity 0, on an iPhone scene with a design on the screen (in our test).

A phone lies on a bent tube. Lights in the right panel lists three lamps.

Click the third Intensity field, type 40 and press Enter. The tube glows bright green.

Click the hex field under it, type FF2D7A and press Enter. The swatch and the glow turn pink.

In HDR, type 0 in Intensity and press Enter. The environment’s reflections leave the scene, and the lamps light it.

Find the lamps

Look at Lights in the right panel. Each lamp is one row: an Intensity slider, a number field and a color swatch. This scene has three lamps. All three rows read Intensity, so tell them apart by their order from the top. In our test they started at 5, 4 and 5, and the third swatch was green. HDR sits below Lights.

Raise a lamp

Click the number field of the third Intensity row, type 40 and press Enter. The tube picks up a bright green glow, because this lamp is green.

A higher Intensity makes this lamp’s glow stronger.

Type a hex color

Click the color swatch at the end of that row. A picker opens with a hex field next to a hash sign. Replace the value with your brand color, such as FF2D7A, and press Enter. The swatch and the glow change to that color. To tune the colors of the whole picture afterwards, see Grade the colors.

Set the environment light

Press Escape to close the picker. In HDR, the Environment lighting switch is on in this scene. Type 0 in Intensity and press Enter to take the environment’s own light out, so mostly your lamps light the scene. Type a higher number to bring it back. Angle changes where the environment light comes from.

Questions

How do I tell the lamps apart in Live Mockups?

In Live Mockups, every lamp row in Lights reads Intensity, so count them from the top. In our test, raising the third lamp to 40 lit the tube, so raise one lamp at a time and watch the edges.

Can I light a Live Mockups scene in my brand color?

Yes. Click the color swatch at the end of a lamp row, type the hex code, such as FF2D7A, in the field next to the hash sign and press Enter. In our test the swatch and the glow turned pink at once.

What does HDR Intensity 0 do in Live Mockups?

It removes the environment’s own light, so mostly your lamps light the scene. In our test the change was subtle on a grey backdrop, with the phone’s edge turning darker. Angle moves where the environment light comes from.

Why is there no HDR section in my Live Mockups scene?

Not every scene has one. The MacBook Air scene we opened listed Lights, Screen effects and Screen glow, with no HDR section. In such a scene the lamps in Lights do all of the lighting.
